Wynn Resorts begin site preparation for Everett Casino
Wynn Resorts has fought tooth and nail with a number of opposing parties who were against the proposed Everett casino in Massachusetts. The city of Boston and Mayor Walsh were the main parties who were unhappy with the Everett casino proposal and they fought Wynn Resorts in the courts as well as in the media.
From the look of things, it appears that Wynn Resorts is winning this battle as the Everett casino obtain a key environmental permit towards the end of August and is now in the process of preparing the Everett site for the construction phase. The $1.7 billion Everett casino will be constructed on a former chemical site and it is a crucial and lengthy cleanup process. The company responsible for the cleanup operation has already brought in machinery and a number of workers have been deployed at the site wearing hardhats with the Wynn label.
Wynn Resorts still has to receive a number of permits at both the state and city levels but the most crucial environmental permit has already been sanctioned and Wynn officials are confident of obtaining the remaining permits. The company is expecting to have a ground breaking ceremony in the spring of 2016 provided there are no more unexpected delays.
Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria has thrown his full support behind the Everett casino as the billion dollar project will change the face of Everett creating employment opportunities, encouraging more tourists to visit and bringing in more revenue to Everett. DeMaria was happy that the clean up process of the site has started and said it was step in the right direction for Everett.
In a statement, Robert DeSalvio, president of Wynn Everett said
We’re looking to begin remediation shortly, and we want to make sure that in advance of that the site is safe and secure and fenced in. DeSalvio stated that Wynn Resorts was not very concerned about the lawsuits filed by the city of Boston and Mayor Walsh. That’s in the hand of the courts. It’s not a suit directed at Wynn itself, so we’ll let that play out through the court system. Meanwhile, we keep moving forward with our process here.
Billionaire Steve Wynn and chairman of Wynn Resorts was happy with the progress at the Everett site and was prepared to battle it out in the coming months as he knows the opposition will still try to stall the Everett casino project.
