Survey Reveals That Americans Are Comfortable With Casinos
The debate on online gambling continues to be a hot topic in the United States and not far behind is the debate on whether casino’s are good for the American public or not. A recent survey conducted by the American Gaming Association (AGA) revealed that a vast majority of Americans had no problem whatsoever with casinos, checkout our list of US Online Casinos.
The AGA which comprises some of the top casino firms in the nation said that its survey revealed that 87% of Americans “view casino gaming as an acceptable activity.” The AGA states that these stats are the highest ever in all these years and is a huge positive for the casino industry. The survey was conducted throughout the nation and handled by political pollsters Mark Mellman and Glen Bolger.
Geoff Freeman who is the president of the AGA said that there is no longer any need for the industry to be defensive. Freeman stated that the public has now recognized the value of having casinos and the casino industry needs to take advantage of this and do it’s very best to promote and expand heavily.
One of the reasons why Geoff Freeman is requesting for solidarity in the industry is because there are a few casinos, most notably Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corp that have launched an anti-online gambling campaign while mega brands like MGM and Caesars continue to push for online gambling to be legalized in the nation. The MGM, Caesars and the Las Vegas Sands Corp are all members of the AGA.
Freeman went on to say that “One of the things I’ve learned in this industry is we are extraordinarily competent at shooting at one another”. The American Gaming Association (AGA) also released a statement which revealed that casinos brought in huge revenue for the country. Commercial casinos in 2012 brought in $37.34 billion and $37.78 billion in 2013, an increase of 1%. While these numbers are impressive, they do not include revenue contributed by tribal casinos which are also in billions.
While these numbers are not known by the general public, the majority of Americans believe that casinos create a significant amount of jobs and also contribute to the local economy. States like Maryland, Massachusetts and New York are currently in the process of encouraging more casinos and this is a significant step for many AGA members who operate in these respective states.
