New England Casinos Relax Slot Machines Payouts
The competition in the gambling industry in states like Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New England and Connecticut is extremely competitive and gambling providers are always looking for new ways and innovative promotions to get ahead of the competition and establish a regular clientele.
Casinos in New England have noticed that a significant portion of their clients spend their time and money on slot machines and as result these gambling establishments have decided to relax slot machines rules in an effort to bring in more customers. It is a common knowledge in the gambling industry that the house always wins and slot machines run on an algorithm that controls the probability of a win and this is one area that the casinos are looking to be more flexible.
New England casinos have decided to increase the frequency of jackpots on the slot machines in an effort to promote and bring in more players who want to make it big. Casino managers have the ability to make small changes with the algorithm that will control the probability of a playing winning the jackpot. The very fact that the casinos are willing to adjust these algorithms is part of the promotion to bring in new players.
Plainridge Park Casino, the first casino in Massachusetts has raised its payout percentage from 90.07 points in July 2015 to 91.43 points in October 2015 in order to attract more gamblers from Connecticut and Rhode Island. The Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut was forced to increase its payout percentages after twenty years and fix it at around 91.98, the Twin River in Rhode Island raised it to 91.87 which was the highest payout percentage in over a decade while the Mohegan Sun raised it to 91.79 after a five year period.
Slot machines pull in a lot of betting money and small adjustments in payout percentages can often result in huge differences in a casino’s bottom line but considering the competition and the fact that all casinos are adjusting their payout percentages, casinos do not have much of a choice.
In a statement, Clyde W. Barrow, a professor from the University of Texas has been studying the casino industry in New England for a number of years and stated that these changes will continue to benefit the casino and not the players. In a statement, Barrow said
You lose $100 in 30 minutes and you are not happy. You lose $100 in three hours then, well, OK, you think of it as having had a good time. It doesn’t mean people are winning more, it means it is taking them longer to lose.
