Glenn Straub Says Giant Seagulls Are Destroying Former Revel Casino
Florida real estate developer Glenn Straub has had an uphill battle ever since he successfully completed the purchase of the former Revel Casino in Atlantic City. Straub’s initial battle was with ACR Energy, the power plant that had complete ownership of providing electricity to the $2.4 billion Revel casino.
The former owners of the Revel casinos were paying close to $3 million a month in power supply charges to ACR Energy and when Straub took over he made his intentions clear to ACR Energy that he had no intention of retaining them. This did not go down well with ACR Energy who decided to cut off the power supply to the former Revel casino and left Straub and his company in a tight spot.
During the past couple of months, Straub and ACR Energy have been going through a tedious legal battle as a lack of power to the Revel casino has caused the casino to become a hazardous building as a lack of water and electricity can cause serious concerns if a fire breaks out. Both parties have been unable to reach a mutual agreement till now and are relying on the courts to make a final decision on the matter.
There are also other elements that are not making things pleasant for Straub who is frustrated that he has to go through so much of legal procedures to kick-start his proposed plan for the former Revel casino. One of those elements happen to be the seagulls from Atlantic City who are fascinated with the Revel casino and appear to have smashed a number of windows on the gambling floor. The empty Revel casino has attracted Atlantic City’s seagulls and they frequently fly into the window glass and damage the same. Straub states that he has to invest around $36,000 to have the windows repaired and re-installed.
In a statement, Straub said
You folks have got some giant seagulls here – some of them look like they’re 60 pounds. We find feathers and everything else underneath the windows, not to mention crabs that they drop from way up to smash them open and then eat.
Straub stated that was committed to the Revel project and plans to install his own solar energy equipment to provide power to the casino. The real estate developer has plans to turn the former casino site into an indoor water park and could consider allotting space for a gambling hall.
