City of Boston Tries To Take Down Wynn Everett Once Again
Wynn Resorts has been winning its battle with the City of Boston over its proposed $1.7 billion dollar casino resort in Everett. The city of Everett has been more than happy to welcome the Wynn Everett casino because it will create thousands of jobs for the local population and also generation millions of dollars in revenue for the city.
The city of Boston has not been very thrilled with the proposed Everett casino and Mayor Marty Walsh has made his standpoint very clear. Mayor Walsh had earlier taken the state gaming association to court stating that they had overlooked a number of facts in rewarding a license to Wynn Resorts.
That lawsuit was played out in the news media and social media circles and in the end Wynn Resorts got the better of the lawsuit as it received a critical environmental permit that allowed the casino operator to begin prep work at the proposed site.
The city of Boston realizes that its lawsuit against the state gaming commission has very limited possibility of stopping the Everett casino and as a result decided to file a new lawsuit against Wynn Resorts this time around. The city of Boston has filed a 41 page lawsuit in the Suffolk Superior Court stating that that a number of issues have been overlooked during the environmental license process and hence wants the court to revoke this critical environmental license.
This second lawsuit appears to be another desperate attempt by Mayor Walsh to delay the Wynn Everett project. Reports suggest that Mayor Walsh has used the media yet again to announce the filing of a second lawsuit and this may not go down well with the courts as a judge in the first lawsuit already warned Mayor Walsh of using the media to gain political mileage.
Wynn Resorts does not appear to be too concerned over the new lawsuit as the city of Everett Planning Board recently voted unanimously to grant al local permits to Wynn Everett so that it can proceed with its Everett project without any further delay.
In a statement, Robert DeSalvio, President of Wynn Everett said
We’re very thankful for the vote from the Everett Planning Board and the continued positive momentum that is building for our Wynn Everett Resort. The planning board recognized that Wynn Everett will be a catalyst in transforming Lower Broadway from an underused industrial area into a vibrant and thriving neighbourhood. Wynn Everett will play a central role in this historic redevelopment.
