Trump Taj Mahal Casino To Reopen Poker Room

Trump Taj MahalThe Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City has announced that it is re-opening its poker room this week after being shut for over a year. The room will be open for its customers on May 13 at 11 a.m. EST.

Casino management stated that the poker room will offer no-limit hold’em, pot-limit Omaha, limit hold’em, stud, stud high-low and Omaha high-low.

The Trump Taj Mahal casino was in severe financial distress which forced the management to close the poker room in February 2015. The casino was saved from bankruptcy proceedings after billionaire Carl Icahn decided to invest over $300 million in an attempt to save the failing casino.

In a statement, Tony Rodio, President and Chief Operating Officer of Tropicana Entertainment said,

This is an exciting time for Trump Taj Mahal and we want our players to be a part of it. Our strategy is to put our customers’ interests at the heart of every decision we make as we return the Taj to its rightful place as a leading gaming and entertainment destination

The reopening of the room would benefit the live poker scenario in Atlantic City which has been witnessing a decline in live poker revenue in recent years. In 2015, the city’s casinos recorded revenue of $31.86 million from live poker games, which was a decline from the $36.32 million registered in 2014 and the $43.56 million in 2013.

The poker room at the Trump Taj Mahal casino is one of the most popular poker rooms on the east coach and was also featured in the movie ‘Rounders’. The poker room brought in $3.57 million in revenue during 2014, placing it at the fourth place in poker room revenues in the city. The top three poker rooms were the Borgata’s which made $19.87 million, Bally’s which recorded $4.4 million and Harrah’s with $3.8 million. In terms of size, the poker room at the Taj Mahal was second with 48 tables with the Borgata being the largest. The casino has so far not confirmed how many tables will be operational with the new launch.

The room was scheduled to reopen last summer after renovations but that did not take place as planned. The casino has planned a number of special promotions for its opening including giving away around 50 TVs as a promotional offer during weekends in May.
