Plainridge Park Casino Is First Massachusetts’ Casino To Launch
Massachusetts government officials worked long and hard to push for the legalization of casinos and their efforts finally came to fruition when the Plainridge Park Casino became the first casino to open its doors to the public. There were a number of government officials, sports celebrities and senior leadership of the Plainridge Park Casino present during the ribbon cutting ceremony which took place earlier this week.
The Plainridge Park Casino will have only slot machines but two other casinos that will open in Everett and Springfield will have all of the popular casino table games and a hotel as well.
The casino in Plainridge had promised the state government to pay $4.7 million each year in property taxes and fees to the Town of Plainville, provide over 500 job opportunities to locals, ensure that harness horse racing continues to stay alive and conduct a first class casino operation in Plainridge. The casino will provide the state with forty percent of revenue that is generated from the slot machines
The Plainridge casino facility has more than 106,000 square feet of gambling space and is situated at the side of a racetrack. The casino has a total of 1,250 slot machines and will remain open to the public on a 2/47 basis. There is also an oyster and seafood restaurant, a three-restaurant food court with fast food, a special Flutie Sports Bar which is named after Boston College football star Dough Flutie and a lounge that hosts live bands.
The Plainridge Park Casino was constructed at a cost of $225 million and had to go through a number of procedures to ensure that everything was in order as per the gambling law of Massachusetts. The casino had a number of conditions to fulfill including meeting local hiring requirements, diversity targets for contracting with women, veterans and minority groups.
The casino has already proven to be a big hit with the local residents as they packed the casino and were enjoying playing the new slot machines. The casino is also expected to attract a lot more people to the town of Plainridge. In a statement, Chief Operating Officer Jay Snowden said
We will deliver exactly what we promised from day one. We take our commitments very seriously and we will never let you down.
Massachusetts residents will no longer have to go out of state to gamble and will soon have more than one casino to choose from.
