Macau Hits £28bn in Casino Takings for 2013
According to the gambling regulator, the Chinese city of Macau raked £2.5bn in December from its three dozen casinos.
The country has again smashed a record with its annual casino earnings recording a staggering £28bn becoming the world’s biggest gambling market. Its casino earnings increased by 18.6% from its previous year 2012 according to the data released by the Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau, the gambling regulator.
According to Grant Govertsen, Analyst of Union Gaming Research stated that,
Macau’s rake is seven times more than that is being raked by the Las Vegas Strip
Revenue from the six operators in Macau are pouring billions into new megaprojects and this has seen Asia eying markets in Macau and making a new fresh round of expansion in Asia.
Macau has turned into a gambling powerhouse creating beautiful casino resorts making it more similar to the Las Vegas Trip. The new resorts are situated center of Cotai Strip and now known as the Vegas of Asia. The place has become a tourist attraction and there has been an increasing number of visitors rolling from Mainland China and this has contributed to Macau’s success in its casino hub industry.
The revenue contributed by the six operators from Macau has surpassed the US market with its previous year recording a rake of $37.3bn (£22.7bn) from 12,000 casinos according to data released by the American Gaming Association.
However, in the same year, Macau had raked $38bn from its 35 casinos with a population of approx. 560,000 according to the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
